Norwegian BankID

Norwegian BankID is Norway's bank-issued eID and the country's dominant way to log in and sign online, used across banking, public services and business. It's built on OpenID Connect, so authentication is a redirect to BankID's own pages and back.

BankID runs at two security levels. The traditional BankID, used with a code device or the BankID app, gives the High level and is what eID Hub uses by default. BankID Biometric, where the user approves with biometrics on their phone, gives the Substantial level. You choose Substantial when you want the lighter biometric experience, or when you're authenticating someone you're already in contact with through a call centre or chat.

A completed transaction returns the user's name and date of birth and a stable identifier. The Norwegian national identity number (NNIN, the Norwegian personal number) is returned only if your eID Hub setup includes the extended certificate for it, which is arranged with Scrive and may require additional rights to process the data.

In eID Hub, Norwegian BankID is the provider noBankID and supports both authentication and signing.
