Swedish BankID

BankID is Sweden's national eID and by a wide margin the most used one. It's built and run by a consortium of Swedish banks, and almost every Swedish adult has it: around 8.5 million active users, roughly 99% of those aged 18 to 67, with over 7,500 services relying on it. Swedes use it daily to log in to their bank, file taxes with Skatteverket, access healthcare on 1177, approve Swish payments and sign documents.

To get a BankID a person needs a Swedish personal number (personnummer) and an account with a participating bank. Mobile BankID is the dominant form: the user confirms each action in the BankID app with a six-digit security code or biometrics. BankID is recognised at eIDAS level substantial and supports advanced electronic signatures (AES).

Through eID Hub, SE BankID (provider seBankID) covers both identification (auth) and signing (sign) in one integration. It's the same flow for both: the user is sent to BankID, confirms in the app, and you get back their verified identity or a signature.
